Eating in Kobe: Steakland Kobe & Gyoza

We stopped by at Kobe on the way back to Kyoto after visiting Himeji Castle. It is almost 2 p.m. at the time we arrived. At that time, we were so hungry cause we used a lot of energy climbing up the stairs until we reached the top of the castle.

Kobe is famous for its high quality beef (Kobe Beef). If you come to Kobe, don't miss a chance to try it. There are many good steakhouses around Sannomiya area. A restaurant we went is not difficult to find since there are a lot of advertising signs along the way to the restaurant.

This restaurant offered lunch set at a reasonable price during lunch time. The price for dinner is 30-40% higher than lunch time. We were seated at the Teppanyaki counter. The lunch set starts with a small bowl of salad and a soup.

Then, the young chef starts frying the garlic until the colour turns golden brown. A garlic here is pre-fried which is different from what we had at Steak House Loin. Since this is lunch time, people will usually stop by for a quick lunch. Therefore, this will definitely reduce a cooking time if they can prepare a fried garlic in advance.

Slice of garlics were pan fried with melting butter. The smell of fried garlics really increase your appetite.

Once the fried garlic is done, the chef will add a fair size of sirloin steak and fry them on the iron pan.

Seasonings, special sauce, and white wine were added during the cooking. Then, the chef will cut the steak into smaller sizes. Since we ordered a medium rare steak, it requires less cooking time than other styles.

Once the outside skin turns brown, the steak is ready to be served. A small piece of steak were placed nicely on a plate with fried garlic on top. This is not done yet but you can taste a melt in your mouth steak first before eating together with fried vegetables.

Two kinds of vegetables (bean sprout and chinese cabbage) were added to the iron pan. Then, they were pan fried quickly with the spatula. Then, seasonings such as salt, garlic, and sauce were added. Finally, the vegetables are ready to be served on a plate of kobe steak.

Be warned, the following pictures should not be viewed when you are hungry...

A lunch set here does include one complimentary drink which you can choose between orange juice, tea, or coffee.

A total bill for 3 is about 9,000 Yen for lunch.

========================================

This gyoza place is located on the way to Steakland. It's very easy to find since there is a big gyoza built on the top wall of the shop.

There is no english menu here but we manage to place an order for what we want. From the shop atmosphere, we can tell that this shop must be specializing in making gyoza.

An iced tea was served together with several small dishes to put the sauce. There are at least 3 kinds of sauces on the table. We tried two different sauces, a shoyu sauce with a dash of rayu and a sesame sauce. Both of them look really good.

Since we had just finished our meal from Steakland, we only order one plate of gyoza to share. At this restaurant, the gyoza will be prepared only when the order was placed. We saw the owner gently added the filling to the gyoza wrapper one by one. Then, she pan-fried these gyozas in a frying pan until the outside skin is crispy.

The gyoza skin is very thin and crispy. The filling is tasty. Overall, this is the best gyoza we had during this trip.
